LSU Construction Management Students

The construction industry is booming. Along with it, the demand for skilled professionals who can manage the intricate details of building projects is growing, too. LSU’s online Construction Management programs offer a variety of pathways to equip you with the expertise to thrive in this exciting field. Whether you're a recent high school graduate, a seasoned professional, or someone looking for a career change, there's a path for you.

About the Online Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management

The online Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM) degree is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the construction industry. Curriculum covers various aspects of the field, including project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, construction safety, and legal principles.

This program also offers two minors and one certification: a Business Administration Minor, a Technical Sales (marketing) Minor, and the potential to earn two certifications - the American Institute for Constructors (AIC) Associate Constructor Certification and OSHA’s Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS).

Exploring the Alternative Options

We recognize that students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying educational goals. To cater to these individual needs, we offer several alternative online construction management degrees and certificates, shown below:

  • Introduction to Construction Management MicroCred: This certificate is ideal for individuals with limited or no construction experience. It consists of three introductory courses that provide a foundational understanding of the industry and can be seamlessly transferred to the online bachelor’s degree in construction management.
  • Advanced Construction Management MicroCred: This certificate is designed for individuals with some construction experience or a related associate's degree. It offers various credentials in specialized construction fields. The courses can be applied towards the BSCM, and some may even transfer to the Master of Science in Construction Management program.
  • Undergraduate Certificate in Construction Management: This certificate is suitable for those seeking to learn the basics of construction management without the general education and math or science courses required in the BSCM degree. It's open to high school students, post-high school individuals, or those already working in the skilled trades. All courses transfer to the BSCM program.
  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management: This certificate is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree in a field unrelated to construction management who are interested in pursuing a career in this field. It consists of six foundational construction management courses and prepares you for entry into the workforce or further graduate studies.
  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Facilities Management: This certificate is ideal for individuals with a bachelor's degree in any field who are interested in transitioning into facilities management careers. It equips you with the knowledge and skills to oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of physical assets within various organizations, such as hospitals, universities, and corporations. Four courses in this program can be applied to the online master’s degree in construction management.
  • Master of Science in Construction Management (MSCM): This master's degree program is ideal for experienced construction professionals or those with a bachelor's degree in business or a related field who want to advance their careers in construction management. The program is highly ranked by the U.S. News & World Report and can be completed in an accelerated format.

How to Choose Your Pathway

Choosing the right pathway depends on your circumstances, including:

  • Prior experience in construction: If you have limited or no experience, the Introductory Construction Management MicroCred or Undergraduate Certificate in Construction Management pathway can be a good starting point.
  • Educational background: If you already have a bachelor's degree in a non-construction field, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management can equip you with a good foundation of construction management knowledge.
  • Career goals: Consider your long-term career aspirations. If you seek a comprehensive understanding of the field and a traditional bachelor's degree, the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management might be the best fit.
