Frequently Asked Questions

Are online degrees and certificates more affordable?

Online degrees and certificates may be more affordable compared to traditional on-campus programs due to the online nature of the programs. However, the cost of tuition and fees will depend on the specific program you choose and the institution offering it. Many students are eligible for financial aid to help offset the cost of tuition and fees for online degrees and certificates, so explore all of your options and determine what works best for you.

How much does an online degree cost?

The cost of an online degree will depend on the institution and the program you choose. On average, online degrees tend to cost less than traditional on-campus programs due to lower overhead costs. However, the cost of tuition and fees can vary, so it is important to research your options and contact the institution for more information. At LSU Online, you can find the cost per credit hour of each program on its program page.

Are there any additional costs associated with online degrees?

In addition to tuition, there may be additional fees for services such as technology, student activities, and laboratory courses. These fees may also vary depending on the program and institution. Again, research the specific program you are interested in to determine if there are any additional costs and what they are. You can contact an Enrollment Coach for help determining the fees of any program offered through LSU Online.

How can I pay for my online degree or certificate?

Many students pay for an online degree or certificate through personal savings, loans, scholarships, grants, or their employers.

Are online degrees eligible for financial aid?

Yes, financial aid is generally available for online degrees in the same way that it is available for traditional on-campus programs. For more information, email lsuonlinefinaid@lsu.edu. You can also learn more about financial aid options by visiting each institution's financial aid page.

Do you offer any military benefits for online programs?

Yes, LSU Online & Education accepts Military Education benefits for degrees and certificates. If you are a military student or veteran, you may be eligible for additional financial aid through programs such as the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs office to apply for your certificate of eligibility (COE) or your respective military branch for more information on your specific benefits.

My employer offers education benefits. Can I apply my benefits toward my degree program?

Many employers offer education and training benefits for their employees. Whether it’s tuition assistance or reimbursement, your company’s policy would outline your eligibility requirements and the steps to applying your benefits toward your degree. If your employer is a partner of LSU Online & Continuing Education, please let your Enrollment Coach or Student Success Coach know to ensure you are taking advantage of your benefits.

Guild: If your tuition assistance is facilitated by Guild, please contact your Guild coach to confirm your eligibility and funding status before beginning your program.

Do I have to pay the full tuition upfront?

No, you pay as you go for each course you’re registered in for the term.

Are online degrees eligible for scholarships?

Yes. LSU Online does accept scholarships for online programs from other scholarship grantors. At the moment, the only scholarships available from LSU Online are the State University Health-New Orleans Scholarships for Public Health Education, outReach, and Equity – LSU SPHERE.
